Safeguarding Children Advanced (Level 3)

Designed to equip staff working with children and young people with the knowledge to contribute to the assessing, planning, intervening and/ or evaluating the needs of a child or young person.

Description

The aim of this course is to provide a clear understanding of Safeguarding and child protection for those in contact with children and young people. It seeks to provide you with a confidence in safeguarding and in doing so, protect children in your work place or those you may come into contact with.

This course is for all staff who work in a variety of roles with children, young people and/or their parents/carers or an adult who could pose a risk to children.

It is particularly relevant for those who potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and/or evaluating the needs of a child or young person outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.

The course also includes the appropriate levels of competence outlined for Health in the Intercollegiate Document (2019).

Topics Covered 

  • Understanding a “Child Centred Approach” to safeguarding and Contextual Safeguarding
  • Recognise the importance of Think Family and understand the importance of Children’s Rights
  • Identify the role of your Designated Safeguarding Lead within your own organisation
  • Explain the importance of good communication, recording skills and how to present safeguarding concerns verbally and in writing
  • Understand Inter-Agency frameworks and the child protection assessment processes
  • Having and understanding of Child Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation, County Lines, Modern Day Slavery, Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage, Honour Based Violence, Faith Abuse and Breast Ironing
  • Know the long-term effects of maltreatment and how it can be detected and prevented
  • Identify the role of the Channel Panel under the Prevent Duty

Prerequisites

A basic awareness/understanding of safeguarding children is recommended prior to attending this course.
